Please tell us a little bit about yourself?
My name is Bukkie Alimi. I am a mother of 3, a student, a business owner, a daughter, a sister, a friend and most importantly, a child of God.
What 3 words would you most like people to use to describe you?
Caring, Creative, Compassionate
Who inspires you and why?
I am inspired by my children because I see them doing great things because of what I instill in them such as fly your wings, reach for the sky and live a purposeful life and because of them, I aim to do the same thing daily both personally and professionally.
What motivated you to begin your business Luxbow Linens?
As a kid, my father would say “Shakespare” in response to certain questions I ask. One day, I asked what “Shakespare” meant. His response was “why not/ if not”. That stuck with me. Why not do what you love and are passionate about. As long as I can remember, I love seeing things come together. I can rearrange the same room and enjoy seeing how it comes together.
How do you balance being a mom of 3, student and entrepreneur?
I am still learning how to balance being a mom, student and entrepreneur. Being a mom is far the toughest title up to date but I know if I am happy in life it makes the process easier for me to be a mom and a wife. I don’t take things that makes me happy for granted such as fly my wings, reaching for the sky, and walking in my own truth.
Any advice to the audience regarding following their dream/passion.
Your dream and passions are yours, you have to believe in them as much as you believe you need breath to stay alive. Don’t wait for anyone to push you. When given a day to be alive, treasure it and use it as a day to follow that dream/passion as best as you can.
What has been your greatest learning experience regarding being an entrepreneur?
The greatest learning experience is always to be human first. Big or small event always think to myself that this is the event that will define my work, leaving a stamp of my work in the events. I remind myself if I can think it, I can accomplish it.
What are your plans for the future?
Plans for Luxbow Linens is to expand Luxbow Linens in both Chicago land area and surburbs. Also provide services out of state. Providing great service and great customer service will always remain Luxbow’s main goal.
Besides working, what do for fun?
Dancing, traveling, exploring, spending time with family and friends, laughing and having a good time. I’d like to do that more.
Now you can see why I had to share this creative gem with the world. It has been a delight watching her grown into the woman, mother and enterprenure that she is. It is because of this lady that I had a wedding reception at all (story for another day… hahaha).
