The Precious Pearls Project – A Good Cause

I am so excited to tell you about my favorite charity organizations called The Precious Pearls Project…….. but first some facts.

Did you know that
1) Only 11% of girls are comfortable describing  themselves as “beautiful”
2) By high school, only 29% of girls report that they are happy the way they are
3) 75% of girls with low-self esteem reported engaging in negative and potentially harmful activities, such as disordered eating, cutting, bullying and smoking or drinking, when feeling badly about themselves

4) Teen girls that have negative views of themselves are 4 times more likely to take part in activities with boys that they regret afterwards
5) Teen birth rate in rural counties within the US is nearly one third higher than that in the Suburban/Urban cites

The Precious Pearls Program was established to empower girls in grades 6-8th, to realize their full potential through exposure to new experiences, developmental workshops and mentorship.

The mission of Precious Pearls is to empower the youth of Desoto County by providing resources, experiences and guidance. The aim is to provide programs and services that inspire, uplift, motivate and educate youth so they can become leaders of tomorrow!

“…. what I have learned for myself is that I don’t have to be anybody else; and that myself is good enough; and that when I am being through to that self, then I can avail myself to extraordinary things… ”

The founder of this life-changing organization, Shameka Hollimon, is doing amazing things in the life of these ladies. I had met her while working in Arcadia, FL and I quickly learned that not only is she passionate about what she does, she is very dedicated and she cares for each and every young lady that she encounters through her organization myself included 🙂

That is the reason I chose to support her organization. Ever since I started actively volunteering, I see how these young ladies have blossomed by excelling in their academics as well as in their families and communities at large. Some of them have gone on to college and are still maintaining their grades which makes me so proud despite being miles apart from them. Lastly, being a part of this organization has personally impacted me as it paved the way for me to find my true purpose. One I am very confidence I will succeed at as Shameka still mentors me from time to time.

It is due to all these reasons I decided I will assist in raising funds to sponsor the girls on a Summer Trip to New York. My goal is to raise $1,000 and I hope to exceed the goal. I cannot do this alone and any assistance towards this (no matter how little) will be greatly appreciated. Click here to donate towards this cause.

Thank you in advance for your contribution and for stopping by. Until next time.
