Interview with the CEO of Eureka: Nukak Asanansi

Nuka

I have gotten a lot of questions regarding who designed my website. So many that it inspired me to interview the man that brought my blog vision to life.

In the short time I worked with him, I quickly learned that he is a man of integrity, passionate about what he does and he goes above and beyond. He does all this so effortlessly that it doesn’t feel like you are transacting with him. Sorry to burst your bubbles ladies but he is soooooooooooo taken and he gave me permission to declare that. HA!

1) Tell us a little bit about yourself?

My name is Nukak Asanansi. I am from Akwa-Ibom State, Nigeria. I am passionate about seeing people do what they were created to do. I am married to a lovely woman – Adetokunboh. I have a BSc in Computer Science and Mathematics from Troy University, Alabama (The Real Trojans – no offense to USC). I gained professional experience as an IT Consultant in United States and Canada. Today I run my own Web Development company in Nigeria called Eureka Digital Marketing (www.thisiseureka.com) and I trade the financial markets part-time.

2) What 3 words would you most like people to use to describe you?

Thoughtful, Reliable, Different

3) Who inspires you and why?

Jesus Christ. There are many reasons why but I think what inspires me the most is that everything we read or hear about him happened only within 3 years of his life.. That is what I call a life of purpose – making every second of your life matter.

4) What motivated you to begin your business “Eureka” & how did the business name come about?

It goes back to what I said about passion. I have always been fascinated by people who seem to genuinely love what they do and have a calling for it. It doesn’t matter what it is – I just feel everyone has something unique about them that this world so desperately needs. Finding that thing and living it out is what life is really about. My years spent in the corporate world just never gave me that fulfillment. The money, the benefits were all good but many times I sat at my workstation and asking myself – ‘What am I doing here?’

Coincidentally at the time, I was just hit with a very difficult life challenge that caused me to lose my job and evaluate who I really was. Eureka was one of the resulting ideas from that situation. Coding and working on computer software always came naturally to me and I saw a need in the IT space in Nigeria. I formed a team with my brother. We coined the term ‘Eureka’ which of course means ‘expression of satisfaction in discovering something’.

I still believe I am yet to discover more passions that I have but for now I think I am a step in the right direction.

5)  Can you tell us about the target population for your business?

Startups, Local Nigerian businesses looking to adopt more web-driven technologies, International businesses and Individuals looking to personally brand themselves.

6) What do you like most about what you do?

Working by myself. I tend to be a loner and work best when zoned in with my cup of coffee 🙂 Coding, web development and trading in the financial markets all give me this privilege 🙂

7) What has been your greatest learning experience regarding being an entrepreneur?

I think one of the biggest misconceptions I got before I started my business was that somehow I would have more time for myself. It was quite the opposite. I found that the responsibilities were a lot more – especially in the beginning stages. You have to give 110% all the time because it’s not only your reputation on the line this time but that of an entire company and staff.

8) What are some notable differences you’ve observed living in Nigeria, USA and Canada?

Obviously the heat in Nigeria is nothing to play with.Besides that though, the cost of living is much more affordable compared to US or Canada. As my work is internationally based, this means that as a trader in the US stock market I have the potential of earning as much as any other trader in US or any part of the world yet my expenses are much cheaper in Nigeria compared to my peers in the US. This is a very notable positive difference.

I love the US for its orderliness and how convenient it is to find one’s true calling. Some of these might seem underrated but the US school system in general is designed such that your natural inclinations are not so difficult to discover – individual talents are utilized and nourished like no other place I’ve been to or heard of.

Canada is like the best of the best for me. Wherever you have great people you are sure to have a wonderful experience. Canada does that for me. The diversity is like nowhere else. I love that place.

9) What prompted your decision to choose your current country of residence?

Actually, my decision to move to Nigeria wasn’t a deliberate one. However on being here I got to realize the immense benefit that surround us regardless of where we are. In Nigeria there’s always so much to develop and improve. As a citizen, I always feel as though overlooking all these and walking away isn’t really an option.

10) Is there anything you would like to share with my readers regarding following their dream/passion.

Find what you were created for, be honest with yourself and follow it. It doesn’t matter if you miss it the first, second or third time. It doesn’t matter if you are wrong or it doesn’t matter if you are passionate about more than one thing. Just take that step and be insistent on finding your purpose in life because WE ALL HAVE ATLEAST ONE. Follow your gut and know that you also have a role to play in this world.

11) What are your plans for the future?

I plan to spend more time trading financial markets. Hope to be involved in more programs that help engineer people towards their life calling. And hope to get a degree from Obafemi Awolowo University, Ile-Ife (I don’t know which yet but it’s just one of those schools I’ve always admired)

12) Which city/state/country has been your favorite to visit and why?

Toronto, Canada by a landslide. The people, the cultural diversity and if you are a single guy – the women.

13) How do you de-stress or favorite actor/movie/book & why?

I read mostly. Favorite book of all time ‘How to Read a Book’ by Mortimer J. Adler. If you want to learn how to get the core gist of a book without spending more time on it than necessary, this book is the solution.

I am also a fan of Basketball and American Football.

14) What is your view on gender equality based on where you’ve lived?

Gender equality is a very broad topic and often misunderstood. I can speak for ages on this. I personally believe everyone regardless of gender, sexual orientation or nationality should be given an equal opportunity to be the best people they can be. This involves providing the same level of compensation, societal incentives and reinforcements for men and women within the same positions. Everyone loves to feel important and everyone has a right to be treated as such.

There is a fact though that is usually omitted when the talk of gender equality is brought up. I believe everyone should get an equal opportunity to reach their utmost goal but I do not believe everyone is designed to be the most effective at everything. For example, I believe women generally are more emotionally intelligent than men. Doesn’t mean there aren’t very emotionally intelligent men, I just feel women are more skilled in this area. And so I do not feel it sexist when more women are found in jobs that require keen sense of emotional intelligence. Also with men, I feel men are naturally stronger (physically) than women. Again this is not always the case but most times it is. So physically tasking jobs such as construction should have more men in the field than women and this I do not see as sexist or gender inequality.

15) How can we contact you on social media?

I am not on any social media. You can reach me via email nuk4040@gmail.com
